Lorenzo Leoncini

Full Professor, University of Siena, Department of Medical Biotechnology; Director of Pathological Anatomy Division AOUS

Professor Lorenzo Leoncini completed an Internship and pathology training at the Institute of Pathological Anatomy and Histology, University of Siena in 1980. He was appointed Full Professor in 2000, also at University of Siena.

His international experience includes research at the University of Bern (1981), Institute Gustave Roussy in Paris (1987), Free University of Berlin (1988), and University of Cape Town (1993). He has ongoing projects In Nairobi Kenya on HPV viral oncogenesis and in multiple sites in SSA on Burkitt’s and other high-grade B-cell lymphomas. He has organized several symposia in Africa on these topics and has mentored African pathologists in his laboratory in Siena. He and other collaborators have published algorithms for cost-effective use of IHC to diagnose lymphomas.
